08:00

Meet your local hiking guide in Bogawantalawa and receive a briefing on the route, terrain and safety precautions for the day.

09:00

Begin walking towards the historic Bogawana Tea Factory, a landmark dating back to 1891. Continue along the estate tracks through the surrounding tea-growing countryside. Follow the trail towards the rocky mountain pass known as Jacob’s Ladder. The path gradually leads away from the main tea-growing area towards the base of the ascent.

10:00

Climb the narrow zigzagging path through Jacob’s Ladder. This is one of the most demanding sections of the route and may be slippery after rainfall. Pause to enjoy the views across the Bogawantalawa Valley. Cross the pass and discover a striking change in scenery, with open grasslands and rolling hills replacing the tea plantations. Continue into the remote Bopaththalawa Valley.

11:00

Walk through the agricultural landscape around Manik Palama Farm, passing cultivated grass fields and rural tracks. Continue towards Bopaththalawa Farm, passing farm buildings, scattered homes and vegetable gardens before reaching the forested section of the route.

12:00

Follow the marked trail through a shaded eucalyptus woodland. Stay on the designated route and follow your guide’s instructions, particularly in areas with limited visibility. Exit the forest near a small settlement and enter the remote Agarapatana Valley. Continue north along the descending road towards Dayagama.

Complete your guided hike in Dayagama after approximately 17.13 km.

14:00
