The Kubal Perahera is the start the processions through town. At the start of the Kubal Perahera, the Devale Perahera assemble in front of the Sri Dalada Maligawa. Their insignias are placed on the ransivige escorted by the Basnayake Nilames who called as the lay custodians of the Devales.
The Kumbal Perahera begins the procession in Kandy, assembling in front of Sri Dalada Maligawa, where sacred insignias are placed on the ransivige and escorted by the Basnayake Nilames, the lay custodians of the Devales. The procession starts with the Natha Devale, followed by the Vishnu Devale dedicated to Lord Vishnu, then the Kataragama Devale featuring traditional dances such as the Kavadi (peacock dance), and finally the Pattini Devale dedicated to Goddess Pattini, associated with healing and protection and uniquely featuring women dancers. This tradition, introduced during the Nayakkar era, is led by the Diyawadana Nilame, followed by the Basnayake Nilames of the four Devales.
