1 Day

Katunayake - Anuradhapura

On arrival at the Bandaranaike International airport, you will be warmly greeted by your very own chauffeur guide and transferred to Anuradhapura (Based on early morning flight to Sri Lanka). En route visit to Munishwaram & Manavari Temples. Spend overnight at a Hotel in Anuradhapura. Munishwaram Temple - An important regional Hindu temple complex in Sri Lanka, which has been in existence at least since 1000 CE, although myths surrounding the temple associate it with the popular Indian epic Ramayana. The temple is one of the ancient Pancha Ishwarams dedicated to Shiva in the region. Munishwaram means the first temple for Shiva (Munnu + Easwaran). It is believed that the Shiva Lingam was already here when Lord Rama visited this place. Manavari Temple - Manavari, about 6 km north of Chilaw, is the first place where Lord Rama installed a Lingam, as a remedy to Lord Shiva after committing Brahmincide by killing the King Ravana who was a Brahmin. This Shiva Lingam in Manavari is called Ramalingam because it was made by Lord Rama. There are only two Lingams in the world named after Lord Rama, the other is in Rameswaram in India.

Anuradhapura - Jaffna

Breakfast at the hotel and proceed to Jaffna. En-route visit to Naguleswaram Temple. Visit Nallur Kandaswamy Temple. Engage with the city tour in Jaffna. Check-in to the hotel. Spend overnight at a hotel in Jaffna. Naguleswaram Temple - According to the Ramayana, after the fierce battle between Rama and Ravana, Lord Rama sought to purify himself from the sin of killing Ravana, who was a Brahmin. To absolve this sin, Rama worshipped Lord Shiva at five sacred temples in Sri Lanka, one of which is the Naguleswaram Temple. It is believed that these temples were established by Lord Rama to honor Lord Shiva and seek his blessings. Nallur Kandaswamy Temple - It is said that Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana traversed various parts of Lanka during their quest to rescue Sita from the demon king Ravana. While the primary events of the Ramayana are centered around the southern regions of Lanka, the cultural and religious influence of the epic extends throughout the island, including the northern areas where Nallur Kandaswamy Temple is located. City Tour in Jaffna - Jaffna is a historical city in the north of Sri Lanka. During this tour you will cover the sightseeing of Dutch fort with more than 2,000 years old history, Famous Library which was burnt by the hooligans in the early eighties with more than 97,000 books and reconstructed to provide the esteemed services once again, Old park used by the British for several administrative purposes and recreation needs, Nallur temple that has more than 500 years history, Museum in the heart of Jaffna that encloses sufficient relics, used utensils, manuscripts, unearthed archeological pieces to illustrate the rich Jaffna culture.

Jaffna - Trincomalee

Breakfast at the hotel and proceed to Trincomalee. Visit Koneswaram Temple. Next, Kanniya Hot Water Springs. Check-into a hotel in Trincomalee & enjoy hotel facilities. Spend overnight at a hotel in Trincomalee. Kanniya Hot Water Springs - According to the King Ravana era It says that King Ravana stuck the earth with his sword in several spots and several fountains sprang from these points. The water was hot and this was the beginning of these hot water springs. Therefore, this is one of the Ramayana Yatra related sites as well in Sri Lanka. Koneswaram Temple - Koneswaram Temple is located on a rock promontory of Trincomalee. This is one of the Pancha Ishwarams dedicated to Shiva. It was built by Rishi Agastya on the instructions of Lord Shiva who was impressed by the devotion of King Ravana. This place is unique in this respect because the Lord built a temple for his devotee as a reward for his devotion. Lord Rama is believed to have offered his prayers here to get rid of the malediction of killing Ravana.

4 Day

Trincomalee - Kandy

Breakfast at the hotel & proceed to Kandy. En route visit Ritigala, Dunivila and Spice Garden Kandy city tour with Tooth Relic Temple. Spend overnight at Hotel in Kandy. Ritigala - The origin of Ritigala dates back many centuries, with its first historical mention attributed to the legendary era of the Ramayana. According to legend, Ritigala was formed from a patch of forest that Hanuman brought to LankaPura from the Himalayas. Dunuwila - Dunuwila is the place where Lord Rama fired the Brahmaastharam at King Ravana, which eventually killed him. Dunu means arrow and Vila Means Lake. This place got its name because Lord Rama fired his arrow from this lake. Dunuwila is an important place where it is considered as one of the most famous Ramayana Sites of Sri Lanka which attracts the visitors with more significance. Dunuwila is situated near the 40 km post on the Hasalaka – Wasgamuwa road. Dunuwila is one of the significant sites of the Ramayana tour in Sri Lanka Spice Garden - For centuries, spices have been one of the most celebrated exports in Sri Lanka. They have been used for medicines, cosmetics as well as to flavor foods. History says that the Greeks, Arabs & Malays had linked with the Sri Lankan business field through spice trade. Spices provide ground for traditional Ayurveda. It is believed that Ayurveda is the science of a long life with a good physical & mental wee-being with natural remedies such as Fenugreek & cinnamon to control blood sugar, cloves as a treat for a toothache, ginger & peppermint to treat nausea, pepper as an anti-cancer property, etc. When you walk through the garden you can have an experience of an Ayurveda massage and other alternative therapies. At the end of the visit, you may have an opportunity to experience a Traditional cooking demonstration. (Optional) Kandy City Tour - Kandy, also Known as the hill capital or Hill country, is the last stronghold of Sinhalese kings after Portuguese, Dutch and British ruling periods. To the Buddhists of Sri Lanka and the World, Kandy is one of the most sacred sites as it is the home of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. The Bahirawakanda Buddha statue that is known as big Buddha is one of the most scenic places in the city. The Kandy Lake that was built by king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1807 is one of the major highlights in the city. The upper lake drive is more scenic and memorable. Today Kandy is the center of Buddhism, Arts, Crafts, Dancing, Music and Culture. Visiting gem lapidary, art and craft center along with a traditional cultural show will complete the city tour in this small historical town.

5 Day

Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

Breakfast at the hotel & proceed to Nuwara Eliya. En - route visit Ramboda waterfalls. Next, Visit to Bhakta Hanuman Temple. Visit Sri Seetha Amman temple and visit Ashok Vatika. Spend overnight at a hotel in Kandy. Bhakta Hanuman Temple - A temple that has been built as a presiding deity with a five meters tall granite statue of Rama's devoted supporter, Hanuman. Hanuman is believed to have started his search for Seeta in the Baroda hills. The Tamil word for Ramboda - Rampadai means "Rama's force". That’s why Ramboda is believed to be the area where Rama collected his troops (Temple is closed between 12:45hrs to 15:35hrs). Ramboda waterfalls - Also visit Ramboda waterfalls. It is 109 m (358 ft.) high and has been recommended as the 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and 729th highest waterfall in the world. It is formed by Panna Oya which is a tributary of Kothmale Oya. Altitude of the falls is 945m (3,100 ft.) above sea level. Don’t forget to visit Ramboda main waterfall at the downside of the Ramboda of Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka. Ashok Vatika - Ashok Vatika is a garden, located in Seeta Eliya. According to the historical Legend of Ramayana, Seeta was kept in this garden as she refused to stay in Ravana's magnificent palace. Some of the findings here include a rock on which Seeta used to sit and meditate. Sri Seetha Amman Temple - Sri Seetha Amman temple is a unique temple situated in Nuwara Eliya. This is believed to be the place where Seeta lived most of the time of her captivity according to the historical Legend of Ramayana. It is also unique in a way that it is one of the very few temples dedicated to Seeta. The place also has footmarks of the monkey god Hanuman.

6 Day

Nuwara Eliya - Kataragama

Breakfast at the hotel & proceed to Kataragama. En-route visit Diurumpola Temple Visit to Visit Rawana Waterfall & Cave Spend overnight at Hotel in Kataragama. Diurumpola Temple - This place is said to have been the location where Seetha Devi underwent "Agni Pariksha" (test), to prove her chastity. The Sinhalese name “Divurumpola” means ‘the place of oath’. Today the legal system permits and accepts the swearing done at this temple while settling disputes between parties. Rawana Waterfall & Cave - Rawana Waterfall is a legendary waterfall that goes back to the era of Ramayana. This beautiful waterfall is located just near the Ella – Yala road. Measuring 25 m in height, this cascading waterfall is glorious to watch during the rainy season. It is told that King Ravana kidnapped princess Sita and kept her hidden in a cave located behind the waterfall. Ravana Cave is believed to be one of several places where Rawana hid lovely Indian Princess Seeta after abducting her. Recently a 20,000-year-old skull was discovered in the cave. Measuring about 50ft wide, 150ft long and 60ft high, this cave will not impress a tourist who does not believe Ramayana.

7 Day

Kataragama - Colombo

Breakfast at the hotel and proceed to Colombo. Visit Kataragama Hindu Temple. En route Visit Ussangoda & Rumassala. Do a Galle City Tour. Spend overnight at a Hotel in Colombo. Kataragama Hindu Temple - This temple is dedicated to God Kataragama usually is called Murugan or Kartikeya by Tamils & Kandasamy or God Skandha by Hindus. This multi religious complex has an Islamic Mosque and a Buddhist temple within its Devala premises. It is one of the few religious sites in Sri Lanka that is venerated by the Sinhala Buddhists, Hindu Sri Lankan Tamils, Sri Lankan Moors and the Vedda people. God Kataragama furthermore has a link to the Ramayana legend. Lord Indra has been given orders to God Skandha to join the battle on the last day of the war to protect Lord Rama from the powerful wrath of king Ravana. Ussangoda - Ussangoda differs from other destinations of Sri Lanka because of the exclusive soil structure and flora. There are several beliefs regarding the unique reddish color of the soil. The soil structure has some residuals like a meteoroid hit and is complemented with high concentration of minerals and metals. Due to the Martian look of the ground, it seems like we are on a Mars planet! According to the Ramayana Legend, Ussangoda is the place where King Rawana’s airport was constructed and his big peacock shaped aircraft landed. Rumassala - The legendary chronicle ‘Ramayana’ proclaims that ‘Rumassala’ is a chunk of Himalayan Mountains in India that was brought by Hanuman to find medicine for Lakshman when he was injured in the battle with Ravana. Rumassala hill gives you a beautiful view of the southern coast of Galle. The Rumassala forest is a home to mammals, birds, insects and reptiles. Galle Dutch Fort - Galle Fort was built by the Portuguese in 1588, and then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 423 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by the Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka. The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by UNESCO and the site has been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

8 Day

Colombo - Colombo

Breakfast at the hotel and leave Colombo. (If time permits, drive to Colombo and enjoy the optional sightseeing experiences). (Optional) Kelaniya Temple - The reason Lakshmana crowned Vibhishana in Kelaniya was because Rama had to return to India as he had to continue his self-exile of 14 years to honour the commitment to his father, King Dasarath of Ayodhya. Therefore, Kelaniya Buddhist Temple is also considered as an important site of Ramayana tour of Sri Lanka. (Optional) Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple - This Kovil is the first Anjaneyar temple in Sri Lanka and the only one on the island dedicated to Lord Hanuman in his Panchamuga form; meaning five faces. And it is said to be the only temple in the world to have a chariot for Anjaneyar. Visitors are advised to wash hands and feet before entering the temple and not to cross hands inside the temple. As all good things come to an end, you will be safely driven to the airport for your flight back home having sweet memories of the tour with Beyond Escapes!!!👋
